Volkswagen of America's sales continued to slide last month, falling 12.8 percent in August over the same period a year ago, the company reported today.

Sales of the Chattanooga-made Passat dropped nearly 10 percent in the month compared to a year ago to 9,190.

Overall VW sales were 35,181 for the month, with only the revamped Golf showing an increase in August among the German automaker's lineup.

For the year, VW sales are down 13.4 percent over 2013, the company reported.

"This summer we made some significant product introductions with the rollout of the all-new Golf family featuring more fuel efficient engines, improved versatility and safety along with an array of new technologies," said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer for Volkswagen of America, in a statement. "With the updated 2015 Jetta hitting dealer showrooms this month, offering more driver assistance features and a NHTSA five-star rating, we are confident our refreshed lineup will spark more consumer demand for the brand."
