Lee men's soccer opens with Temple and other sports news

• The Lee University men's soccer team will open its season tonight at 7 by hosting Tennessee Temple in the Olive Garden Invitational in Cleveland. Temple will face Union University at 4:30 on Friday, and Union will take on Lee in a matchup of Gulf South Conference members Saturday night. Lee's Flames went 13-5-6 overall and were 8-2-4 and second in the regular season in the Gulf South last year, and coach Paul Furey feels good about their preseason training effort and general health. "I think we are right where we need to be at this point, though we still have a way to go, obviously," he said in a Lee release. "Attitudes and mindset have been great. This group is focused and eager to get it going." The Lady Flames open in Florida with matches Friday night at Lynn in Boca Raton and Sunday night at Barry in Miami Shores.

Volleyball

• The Covenant College volleyball team improved to 5-0 for the season with a 3-0 victory (25-10, 25-7, 25-8) Wednesday night against visiting Wesleyan College from Macon, Ga. Chelsea VanDyk led the Scots with 7 kills and a .875 kill percentage, and Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 11 assists in the win. Chloe Carlson led defensively with seven digs, and Schuyler Moore had six aces.
