With its colorful and eclectic mix of produce and handicrafts, Chattanooga Market is typically a feast for the eyes, but early-bird visitors can take a different kind of scenic route around the market Sunday, Sept. 7.

New to the weekly schedule this year is the Run of Honor 8K and 1-Mile Fun Run, paying tribute to the community's public servants.

The Run of Honor is an 8K certified course that begins and ends at First Tennessee Pavilion and encircles Chattanooga National Cemetery by way of Main Street. Timed by the Chattanooga Track Club, the inaugural race includes multiple award categories and a commemorate shirt for participants.

All race activity will take place before the market opens at 11 a.m. In addition to the regular assortment of vendors, the afternoon will feature music by Brian Ashley Jones at 12:30 p.m. and Charlsey Etheridge at 2 p.m.

The run is organized by Chattanooga Market in partnership with Rock City Lodge No. 22 Fraternal Order of Police. Proceeds from the race will benefit two deserving causes: the Tim Chapin Scholarship Fund and Fort Campbell Fisher House.

Chattanooga police Sgt. Tim Chapin died in the line of duty on April 2, 2011, shot and killed after responding to a robbery at a pawn shop on Brainerd Road. The fund was set up by his fellow lodge members to provide financial assistance to achieving students with a parent or guardian who is active in the lodge.

The Fort Campbell Fisher House in Fort Campbell, Ky., serves as a home to family members who need a place to stay while a loved one is receiving medical care from a Veterans Administration or military medical center.
