The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team lost 3-2 to the College of Charleston and 3-0 to Belmont in matches Saturday in Georgia's Bulldog Invitational. Kristy Wieser had 17 kills and 10 digs in the 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11 loss to the Cougars (3-3), and Sarah Batterton and Allie Davenport had 12 and 11 kills while Anne Bachmann and Lauren Greenspoon contributed 28 and 19 assists and 19 digs apiece. Catherine Chason and Brianna Guzinski had 16 and 15 digs, Nicole Sumida had two block solos and six block assists and Lauren Gainer added eight block assists. Wieser had team highs of seven kills and 13 digs as the Mocs fell to 1-6 with the 25-13, 25-23, 25-14 defeat by Belmont (2-5).

• Dalton State dedicated its court in Bandy Gym to Melvyn Ottinger and beat visiting Brewton-Parker 3-0 (27-25, 25-12, 25-15) in its SSAC volleyball opener Friday, but the Roadrunners (4-2, 1-1) lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-11) to undefeated Coastal Georgia on Saturday. Michala Askew had 23 assists and Savannah Nelson recorded 10 kills for the Roadrunners on Friday, and Askew had 11 assists Saturday.

• Schuyler Moore had 10 kills, 19 assists and 11 digs and Ginny Moore had 12 kills and 20 digs in Covenant's 3-2 volleyball victory over Berry at Transylvania this past weekend, but the Lady Scots lost 3-0 to Millikin, Transylvania and Bethany and now are 6-3. Chloe Carlson had 24 digs against Berry.

• Despite 30 kills by Jamie Sue Wilson and 22 by Diamond Stewart, the Sewanee volleyball team lost 3-1 to Pikeville and 3-2 to Cumberland in matches Saturday at Sewanee. Sarah Jayne Sutton had 49 digs and Rachel Schuman and Walker Buxton totaled 39 and 26 assists for the Tigers (3-4). The Cumberland match was 24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 17-25, 15-13.

• Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan had 17 kills and 14 digs and Kristen Pickett from Cleveland High School had 48 assists and 10 digs as Carson-Newman rallied to beat Humboldt State 3-2 in volleyball Saturday at Belmont, Calif. Harper had 17 kills again, Pickett had 31 assists and they had nine digs each in a 3-0 loss to Academy of Art.

• Payton Tipton from Cleveland had a match-high 19 digs in King's 3-1 volleyball win Saturday against Columbus State at Newberry, S.C. She added 14 in a 3-2 loss to USC-Aiken.

Running

• Covenant College's Beth Burgess made it 2-for-2 in cross country meet wins this season with the 6-kilometer victory Saturday in the Sewanee Invitational. Her time of 23 minutes, 44 seconds was 14 seconds better than her previous school record. The Lady Scots finished third as a team with Ruthie Cargill finishing seventh and Anna Hankal, Margaret Fitch and Esther Anderson 17th, 18th and 19th. Sewanee was the women's winner with Amy Lee fifth individually and Cate Hargrove, Tricia Murphy, Katie Lafferrandre and Lexy Rouse ninth, 10th, 12th and 13th. NCAA Division II member Lee University dominated the seven-team men's 8k with Seth Eagleson winning in 26:13.71 and Joseph Crook, Tyler Boone, Harold Smith and Terris Elliott finishing third through sixth; Camden Perez was 10th for good measure. Sewanee was fourth with Logan Stockton seventh and Mark McAlister 17th, and Covenant was fifth with Eliot Kaufmann and Graham Massot 12th and 14th individually.

• Tennessee Wesleyan's cross country teams both finished first out of six teams in the Buffalo Valley Stampede at Johnson City, Tenn.

Golf

• The Lee University women's golfers took the first-day lead in the 13-team Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate tournament in Sevierville with a 305 Saturday, led by Caroline Moore's 73 and Bernadette Little's 74 in ties for third and sixth. Madison Alexander shares 17th place at 78. Mount Olive's Julie Loennechen has a five-stroke lead at 67. Carson-Newman is second in the team standings at 308. Cortnee Young from Walker Valley had King's third-best score, a 79.

Soccer

• The Lee University men's soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win Saturday night against Union University in the Olive Garden Invitational. The Flames' goals were by Travis Kiger at 37:06 and Gabe Franco on a penalty kick at 71:57, nearly six minutes after Paul Langford equalized for Union. Quade Marinell assisted on Kiger's goal and was voted the tournament MVP.

• Anna Porch followed up her two goals in Friday's win for the Covenant women's soccer team with three in Saturday's 5-2 defeat of Marymount at Emory, Va. Bethany Logan scored the other two for the Lady Scots (2-3), who compiled a 21-12 advantage in shots.

• Second-half goals by Michael Arango, Snoopy Davidson and Ian Meredith overcame a two-goal deficit and gave Covenant a 3-2 win over visiting Millsaps in men's soccer Saturday night. Covenant (2-1) had a 21-11 edge in shots with a 15-5 second-half margin against the Majors (3-1). The Scots had a 6-1 margin in corner kicks after halftime.

• The Tennessee Wesleyan women's soccer team beat visiting Campbellsville 2-0 on Saturday with goals by Amy Cooley late in the first half and Alexis Dalberth in the final minute. TWC outshot its guest 13-12. The Wesleyan men lost 3-0 at Martin Methodist, which outshot the Bulldogs 28-6. Bogachan Akyildiz made seven saves.

Field Hockey

• Kat Mulligan scored in the first minute from a Carrie Anderson assist for the Sewanee field hockey team Saturday, but Washington & Lee netted the next three goals and won 4-2 in the match played in Memphis. Anderson also assisted on Sarah Barry's goal for the Tigers (0-3), who had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. The Generals are 4-1.

Football

• Times Free Press writer and "Press Row" radio co-host David Paschall will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Paschall will be speaking mainly about college football, but he also keeps up with the baseball Lookouts, who surged late into the Southern League playoffs. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without.
