Quilters show draws thousands

The American Quilter's Society kicked off one of the biggest conventions ever in Chattanooga in the first of three years the show will come to town. The four-day Quilt Week show in Chattanooga this week is expected to draw up to 12,000 quilters and guests and over the next three years the shows are projected to pump $30 million into the local economy.

"This is a great facility for our show during the day and Chattanooga is a great town for our guests to do a lot at night and during their free time," said Richard Louise, chief operating officer of the American Quilter's Society.

According to a 2010 study by Quilts Inc., more than 21 million Americans are quilters and collectively they spend nearly $2.5 billion a year.

EPB upgrades park Wi-Fi

EPB Fiber Optics is bringing its faster Internet to the free Wi-Fi service offered at Miller Plaza and the Waterhouse Pavilion in downtown Chattanooga. The city-owned utility announced Wednesday that it has added its high-speed Wi-Fi to the downtown park, which is owned by River City Co. Chattanooga-based AirNet has provided free Wi-Fi in most downtown parks for nearly a decade, but the new EPB service will be faster and more robust, EPB spokesman John Pless said.

"Whether you're Tweeting, posting or just checking Facebook, you'll enjoy having access to the most bandwidth available in a wireless environment," he said.
