Trotter leads another rout for Blue Tornado

It would be almost impossible for McCallie running back Alex Trotter to have a similar game to last weekend.

He came close to another record-setting performance in the Blue Tornado's 49-27 win over Siegel on Friday in Spears Stadium.

The senior rushed for three touchdowns and 264 yards on 14 carries. He didn't play in the fourth quarter.

"The O-line opened up some pretty big holes," said Trotter, who had 374 yards and seven touchdowns a week ago. "The guys on the perimeter helped me, too."

McCallie (4-0) amassed 542 yards, including 448 on 55 rushes.

"I like the rushing yards," coach Ralph Potter said. "Alex is having a remarkable year."

Running back Greedy Howse led the Stars with 112 rushing yards and 72 receiving yards. But he never got to the end zone. McCallie limited Siegel to 192 yards of offense, and the Tornado's Nygel Edmonds intercepted Jordan Middleton twice.

"I'm not sure if it's so much their defense or our offense," Siegel coach Greg Wyant said. "They whipped our tail."

The Blue Tornado needed three snaps to score. Trotter started his night with an 80-yard touchdown.

Siegel sophomore kicker Jacob Smith displayed a powerful leg in crushing a 44-yard field goal. Following a McCallie fumble recovered by Siegel's Harrison Marshall, Smith added a 27-yarder that cut the Stars' deficit to 7-6.

They didn't have much success in the second quarter.

The Blue Tornado marched 80 yards, capped by Trotter's second touchdown of the night. He sat out most of the next drive and quarterback JaVaughn Craig finished it with a 1-yard run. McCallie added another seven points just 12 seconds before halftime on a 7-yard pass from Craig to Matt Brock.

"We couldn't get them slowed," Wyant said. "And we couldn't generate anything."

The teams retreated to halftime with McCallie leading 28-6 and having outgained Siegel 341-114 in the first 24 minutes. Trotter had 148 of those yards.

He took the first snap of the second half 37 yards. A 37-yard pass from Craig to Tyler Payne followed on the next snap, and shouting began on the Siegel sideline.

The Stars (0-4) crossed the goal line after an 11-play drive capped by a 2-yard run from Andrew Knox.

It didn't help much.

Trotter raced 80 yards two snaps later for his third touchdown of the game. The second interception by Edmonds set up a 1-yard score by Maxim Yeoh.

Siegel scored two late touchdowns on an 8-yard pass from Middleton to D.J. McGee and a fumble recovery by Marcus Wilson in the end zone.
