UT Alliance of Women Philanthropists meet

What: More than 50 area women gathered at the Walden Club recently for the first membership event of the University of Tennessee Alliance of Women Philanthropists held in Chattanooga. The event was to emphasize how gifts of any size to the university impact college students and programs of the university.

Benefits: "The Alliance's purpose is to celebrate the role of women in philanthropy at UT and to encourage more women to become philanthropic leaders on all UT campuses," said Jodie Johnson, chairwoman of the Alliance's executive committee. "We are holding events across Tennessee to reach out to our members and raise awareness of our Giving Circle grants program."

According to UT's Office of Advancement Services, 45 percent of UT's donors are women, and there have been 113,700 women donors in UT's history. Alliance members have committed more than $855 million to the university's campuses to date.


Romo, Seaver stars of Serve and Protect dinner

What: Chefs Nico Romo and Barton Seaver were featured at the annual Serve and Protect gala held in the Tennessee Aquarium Imax Theatre. The duo presented a Food Network-style live cooking show that was followed by a seated seafood dinner prepared on-site by Chattanooga chefs.

Benefits: Serve and Protect, the aquarium's sustainable seafood program.
