UTC's Teghan Henderson was the women's winner of Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic cross country meet Saturday morning at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. In her fifth consecutive regular-season victory, Henderson ran the 5 kilometers in a personal-best 16 minutes, 53.25 seconds for a four-seconds-plus win over runner-up Rhianwedd Price of Mississippi State, who set a fast pace and led most of the race. Vanderbilt runners finished third through seventh for the team title. UTC seniors Rebecca Greenwall and Amanda Cotter were 41st and 42nd. Redshirting Moc Paul Stuart, running unattached, finished 29th in the 8k in 25:34.11, and UTC senior John Gilpin had a time of 25:48.64. Lee University was the men's winner among the non-Division I teams in the meet, with five runners in the top 13, and the Lady Flames were fifth. Harold Smith was 34th out of 242 8k runners and third of the non-DI guys in 25:38.98, and Seth Eagleson, Tyler Boone, Terris Elliott and Joseph Crook were seventh, ninth, 11th and 13th. Lee's Jessica Childers was the 10th fastest non-DI female runner, and Audrey Smith and Elizabeth Sillcocks were 18th and 22nd.

• Both Covenant College cross country teams won the Saucony Invitational held Saturday in Helen, Ga. The Lady Scots' Beth Burgess, Ruthie Cargill and Margaret Fitch were third through fifth in 20:21, 20:57 and 21:07 in the 5k, and Esther Anderson, Abby Irwin and Anna Hankal were eighth, 10th and 12th. The Scots' Graham Massot was second and Elliot Kaufmann was fifth in the 8k in 29:30 and 30:05, and teammates Stephen Dillon and John Weaks were ninth and 10th. The women's race had 10 teams; the men's had nine.

• The Dalton State men's cross country team finished second to NCAA Division II member Columbus State in the Bobcat Invitational meet hosted by Georgia College and State University on Friday in Milledgeville. The DSC women were fourth behind three Division II schools, the hosts, Columbus State and Augusta. Nine of the male Roadrunners finished in the top 25 of the four-mile field of 61, led by Spencer Head in fifth place at 21:16:64. Teammates Paul Patterson, Isaac Pacheco, Brody Cook, Paul Schupp and Jacob Robinson were 12th through 16th. Dalton State freshmen Gloria Pascual and Kuersten Gallivan were seventh and ninth in the women's two-mile race.

Golf

• Wes Gosselin shot a 2-under-par 70 for the UTC men's golf team, which totaled 294 and dropped to 11th at 580 in the 18-team Tar Heel Intercollegiate tournament Saturday at Chapel Hill, N.C. Host North Carolina leads by 19 at 550. Gosselin and teammate Ewan Scott are tied for 24th individually at 143, and Liam Johnston and Brooks Thomas are at 146 and 149.

• Former UTC golfer Steven Fox tied for fifth at 270 and earned $6,850 in the eGolf Tour's Island View Casino Championship, which ended Saturday at the Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Miss. Former North Carolina golfer Dustin Bray won by three strokes with a 264 and received $32,000.

• Tennessee Wesleyan finished second in the Blue Raider Invitational women's golf tournament Friday and Saturday at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Ky., and the Lady Bulldogs' Abby Dukes and Kinsley Vincent tied for third individually at 162. Union College won the five-team event with a 652 and had the top two individuals. TWC's total was 658 with Logan Cass seventh at 166 and Mackenzie Hodge tied for 10th at 168.

Volleyball

• The UTC volleyball team beat Mississippi Valley State 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Murray State in the Chattanooga Classic on Saturday. Briana Reid had 10 kills, Sarah Batterton and Julimar Alvarado had nine apiece and Kristy Wieser had eight in the 25-9, 25-14, 25-8 rout of MVSU, while Lauren Greenspoon and Anne Bachman had 23 and 18 assists. Wiser had 12 kills and 20 digs against Murray State (9-0), while Allie Davenport and Nicole Sumida had 11 and 10 kills, Bachmann had 32 assists and Catherine Chason and Brianna Gruzinski had 21 and 16 digs for the Mocs (5-6). Set scores were 23-25, 25-19, 27-29, 25-14, 17-15.

• Ginny Moore had 12 kills in each match as the Covenant volleyball team won 3-0 over both Emory & Henry and Agnes Scott on Saturday. Moore had 11 digs, Chelsea VanDyk had 10 kills and Jessica Seehorn and Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 21 and 15 assists for the Lady Scots (9-3) in the 25-17, 25-21, 25-23 defeat of Emory & Henry, which got eight kills from Hixson High graduate Kennady Thomason. For Covenant against Agnes Scott, Hannah Rogers and VanDyk had 11 and nine kills and Kirkpatrick and Seehorn had 21 and 20 assists. Chloe Carlson totaled 30 digs in the two wins.

• Erin Hill had 18 assists and eight kills and Latrice Johnson also had eight kills as Lee lost 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-17) to visiting West Florida in Gulf South Conference volleyball Saturday. Haley Foote had 14 assists and Stephanie Hernandez had 14 digs for Lee (0-3, 0-2). UWF (8-0, 2-0) is ranked 19th in NCAA Division II.

• Payton Tipton from Cleveland High School had 28 digs and three aces as King University outlasted Flagler 3-2 in the Tusculum volleyball tournament Friday. The set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-10. Tipton had 24 and 16 digs in 3-1 and 3-2 losses to Lander and Lincoln Memorial on Saturday.

• Cleveland's Kristen Pickett had 45 assists, 24 digs, four aces, two block solos and three block assists in a 3-2 volleyball loss for Carson-Newman against UNC Pembroke on Saturday in Augusta, Ga. The Lady Eagles then lost 3-0 to GRU Augusta. CNU (4-3) played without usual leading hitter Rachel Harper from Boyd-Buchanan, but Lauren Santarelli had 23 kills.

Soccer

• Nicolas Mortensen's goal in the 68th minute held up for a 1-0 victory for Lynn University against Lee in men's soccer Saturday at Boca Raton, Fla. Tom Halsall made six saves for Lee (3-1-1), which was outshot 15-5 by Lynn (4-0). Also Saturday, Tennessee Wesleyan's men lost 2-1 to visiting Lindsey Wilson, a longtime NAIA power, and Tennessee Temple (2-4) fell 2-0 at Georgia Gwinnett. Temple's Lady Crusaders are 0-5 after a 7-1 home loss to Point University.

• In a late NCAA Division III men's soccer match Friday, Covenant won 4-0 at Sewanee with an early own goal and scores by Ian Meredith, Roy Anderson and Andrew Jablon. Shots and corner kicks were even at 14-14 and 4-0, but Daniel Kubin made five saves for the Scots (3-2). Gordon Carpenter and Snoopy Davidson had assists.

General

• New UTC senior associate athletic director Scott Altizer will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without.
