After two rounds Monday of the 16-team Cardinal Cup tournament in Simpsonville, Ky., the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team is in sixth place at 604, four shots out of fourth. Middle Tennessee State leads at 584, nine strokes ahead of second-place host Louisville. UTC's Emily McLennan opened with a 70 and added a 77 to tie for seventh, while Sarah Dolmovich is tied for 17th at 150 and Agathe Sauzon and Isabella Loza share 38th place at 154.

• Heritage High School graduate Hunter Cornelius helped the defending NAIA national champion Coastal Georgia men's golf team take the first-round lead Monday in its tournament at the Sea Island Golf Club's Retreat Course with a 71, tying him for fifth place individually. That is three strokes behind the leader from Thomas University and one behind the best score for the Mariners, who lead the team standings by two strokes with their 287. Dalton State is tied for sixth at 305, with Sean Elliott at 73, Austin Hughes at 75, Max Bruck at 78 and Levi Nix at 79; and Georgia Northwestern is 10th out of 13 teams. In Coastal's 11-team women's tournament at Jekyll Island, Dalton State's Lady Roadrunners are tied for second in their first-ever tournament, led by Julia McQuilken's first-place 71 and Erika Wardzinksi tie-for-10th 79. The team is at 322, two ahead of Coastal Georgia and 13 behind Northwood (Fla.).

Auto Racing

• Michael Davis of Cleveland won the $1,500 top prize in the Super Pro class Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip with a 5.42-second final run on a 5.42 dial in his Chevrolet-powered dragster. He ran four 5.42s in a row. Justin Tipton was second with a 4.88 burst on a 4.87 dial. Jeff Montgomery from Powder Spring, Ga., won the Foot Brake class with a 6.49 run on a 6.49 dial; David Bigham was second with a 7.81 on a 7.80. Kaleb Winters from Soddy-Daisy won the Junior Dragster class with Tyler Dennis of Hixson second, and Cynthia Warnock continued her streak of having the low elapsed times (4.59 seconds) and top speeds (149.5 mph) in the weekly meets.

Volleyball

• After winning two of three matches this past weekend in the Concordia tournament at Selma, Ala., the Tennessee Temple University volleyball team blitzed visiting Oakwood 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-10) on Monday. Kiara Govan had 23 assists and Amy Keokanlaya had 19 assists for the Lady Crusaders (6-8), who got eight kills, eight digs and four aces from Naomi Posada and seven kills and nine digs from Lydia Vick. Victoria Smith and Posada had 11 and nine kills in the tournament win over Point, when Kovan had 28 assists and Shatoya Medford and Vick each had 25 digs, Medford with five solo blocks. Medford had 12 kills, 23 digs and five solo blocks and Smith had 12 kills and eight solos in a 3-2 defeat of Concordia, while Govan had 42 assists and 20 digs and Keokanlaya, Posada and Vick had 34, 25 and 23 digs. They lost 3-1 to LaGrange, but Posada had 16 kills and 31 digs, Medford had 33 digs and seven solo blocks, Vick and Keokanlya had 23 and 20 digs and Govan had 31 assists. Celeste Walton had matches with five and four solo blocks.

• Covenant College junior Chelsea VanDyk was the USA South volleyball player of the week after averaging three kills per set in a 3-0 week for the Lady Scots.

Running

• Beth Burgess of Covenant College was the USA South women's cross country runner of the week for the third time in a row, and teammate Margaret Fitch repeated as rookie runner of the week. They were third and fifth individually in the 5k at the Saucony Invitational in Helen, Ga. Covenant's Graham Massot was the men's runner of the week with the Scots' Eliot Kaufmann the rookie runner after they finished second and fifth in the Saucony 8k. Covenant won both team titles.

• Russ Rogers and Rebecca Stein were the overall winners in the CADAS 5k race Saturday from the Hubert Fry Center on the Tennessee Riverwalk. Rogers covered the distance in 19 minutes, 32 seconds. Stein was 10th overall in 25:43. Cam Chapman, Chris O'Mary, Scott Wilhoit and Hubert Hixson were second through fifth in 20:53, 21:52, 22:18 and 22:35.
