Sales start for iPhone 6

Apple's newest phones go on sale this morning when the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus hit the market. Unlike some previous iPhone launches when everyone lined up at Apple stores to purchase their iPhone, the new iPhones will be sold today at dozens of stores in the region, including Mac Authority, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile wireless outlets and retailers like Best Buy, RadioShack, Staples, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart.

"There's a lot of excitement and we expect people to be lined up waiting for the new iPhones," said Jeff Shelman, director of communications for Best Buy, which is opening its Hixson and East Brainerd superstores early at 8 a.m. and its mobile unit in the mall at 9 a.m.

When Apple announced opening weekend iPhone sales of 9 million units last year, it included all the new iPhone 5C models in the announcement. The Wall Street Journal estimated this summer that Apple will make 70 million to 80 million of the new iPhone 6 models.
