Eye On The Left: Biden, Michelle, last chances and Redskins

Vice Gaffe-r

Vice President Joe Biden did not have a good week. Last Tuesday, he used what is often recognized as an anti-Semitic slur to refer to people who gave bad loans to members of the military. On Wednesday, he referred to Asia as the now déclassé "Orient" and said "we'll determine" whether the United States would send ground forces to fight ISIS (when President Obama has ruled out ground troops).

Finally, on Friday, he spoke favorably about a former disgraced senator, Bob Packwood, R-Ore., who once worked with Democrats on the minimum wage issue. Packwood, who resigned in 1995 after the Senate Ethics Committee unanimously voted to expel him for sexual and official misconduct, had been accused in committee documents of misconduct with 19 women.

Biden's latest remarks, ironically and unfortunately, came in front of the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum.

Only Ammo Available

First lady Michelle Obama defended her husband's record at a recent Washington, D.C., fundraiser by remarking "how different our country looks" that "kids [can] take for granted that a black person or a woman can be president of the United States," according to Breitbart.

Granted, that wasn't much of a defense since blacks and women have been eligible to be president for years, but then she added a couple of clunkers - gay marriage, which candidate Obama opposed in 2008 and which he didn't endorse until Biden beat him to the punch in 2012, and "three brilliant women," only two of which Obama appointed, on the not very popular Supreme Court.

Incredibly, she went on, mentioning the unpopular Affordable Care Act, the auto bailout, which was signed into law by President George W. Bush, and the stimulus, which even many Democrats try to forget.

She even threw in a few words about her anti-obesity agenda, which has forced the adoption of highly unpopular school lunch menus and seen wasted food and money across the country.

On the other hand, what else could she say?

Going Once, Going Twice

If you're planning to grab some of President Obama's Organization for Action gear, hurry. With the president sinking in the polls and much of the "action" just a pipe dream, a lot of the merchandise on the official campaign-like website is available at discount prices.

But Obama fans can still pretend it's 2008 with 10 Action placards, five Action buttons and five Action bumper stickers for $15, $10 off the regular price.

Or, starry eyed new moms and dads who are still holding on to a desire for hope and change can outfit their tiny Obama clone in a onesie with the words "Organizer Training" on the front. It's only $17.50, down from $21.50.

Or, Democrats who want to look to 2016 can purchase an adult organizer long-sleeve T-shirt emblazoned with the words "I Am Organizing For Action." Then, conveniently, they can place a "Ready For Hillary" button over the left breast, where Obama's iconic campaign symbol is currently. It's $25, down from the original $35.

However, don't think you're going to get the Love Is Love (temporary) Tattoo Pack for a discount. It's still $15.

Redskins Polling Strong

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., may be the only one left, or one of a dwindling few, who believe Washington's National Football League team should punt its Redskins nickname.

A recent poll by the Watson Center for Public Policy showed bipartisan support by a solid majority (68 percent) of Virginia voters that the name was not offensive to American Indians. An even larger majority (71 percent) felt the team should keep its name, with similar support coming from Republicans, Democrats and independents.

Although fewer women and blacks supported the idea than the overall numbers, they were still in the majority for supporting the name.

The poll, which interviewed 10 percent more women than men and 2 percent more Democrats than Republicans, also revealed that 13 percent of respondents said changing the name would make them less likely to follow the team.
