UTC men's golf fourth at Wolf Run and other sports news

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team got its best result of the season with a fourth place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., on Sunday. The Mocs shot a final-round 306 to finish at 905 and behind champion Illinois as well as Florida and Houston. Ewan Scott led UTC finishing at 9-over-par 222 and tied for 11th, while Zach Stolz (226) wound up tied for 17th, followed by Liam Johnston (228), Wes Gosselin (231), and Andrew Weathers (232).

The UTC women's golf team claimed seventh place at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin. Tenn., which was won by tournament host Vanderbilt. UTC finished with a total score of 895 after shooting 304 in the final round. Emily McLennan finished tied for 13th after shooting 4-over-par 220 for the tournament. Agathe Sauzon and Isabella Loza tied for 39th at 227, followed by Sarah Dolmovich (229) and Megan Woods (233).

Tennis

• UTC's Kayla Jones and Samantha Caswell chose not to play each other for the top singles championship Sunday in the USC Upstate Fall Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., but Jones and Caswell did claim the top doubles title with an 8-3 win over Wofford's Kalli Karas and Lauren Reid. The Mocs also got titles from Kelsey Coots, who won the Black singles draw, and Katie Polk who won the White singles back draw. Claire Mulyadi and Alison Storie won the White doubles back draw for UTC, while Kaylene Chadwell and Coots lost in the finals of the White doubles draw.

Football

• Junior wide receiver Justin Houston from Bradley Central High School set a Tusculum College record with 17 pass receptions in Saturday's 38-35 home loss to North Greenville. Houston, a preseason All-American, had a career-best 199 receiving yards (third most in school history) and scored a 31-yard touchdown for the Pioneers (1-2), who scored 21 consecutive points to forge a 35-35 tie but lost on a field goal with 2.5 seconds to go. While Tusculum quarterback Malcolm Pendergrass was 32-for-50 passing for 365 yards and two touchdowns and added 66 yards on 21 runs, Crusaders counterpart Nelson Hughes was 24-for-30 for 358 yards and five touchdowns and rushed 14 times for 92 yards.

Soccer

• Lee University won 2-0 against North Alabama in Gulf South Conference women's soccer Sunday night in Cleveland. Katie Cloud opened the scoring for the Lady Flames in the first half on an assist by Kinsey Cichowitz, and Kaela Leskovar added an insurance goal late in the second period to perserve the win, assisted by Nicole Blanchard and Michelle Spangler. Lee goalkeeper Marbel Eqwuenu made four saves in the win.

• The Sewanee men's soccer team lost to College of the Ozarks, 1-0, on Sunday in Point Lookout, Mo., as Matt Weaver scored the game-winner in the 73rd mintute of play. Sewanee goalkeeper Conrad Bandoroff made five saves for the Tigers (3-5).

Volleyball

• Sewanee fell 3-0 to visiting Hendrix in Southern Athletic Association volleyball Sunday, although the Tigers improved throughout the match with set scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-21. Sara Jayne Sutton had nine digs in the loss for Sewanee (4-8, 1-2 SAA).

Dog Sports

• The Hyperflite Skyhoundz World Canine Disc Championship returns to Chattanooga this week with jumping dog acrobatics Friday through Sunday at Coolidge Park, daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The annual competition is billed as the "premiere event in canine sports and features top teams from around the world." Admission is free, but $1 donations are encouraged to benefit the local McKamey Animal Center, and the center has hyperflite canine discs on sale.
