The Dixie Group, Inc., announced today it is buying substantially all of the assets of Burtco Enterprises, Inc., a Chickamauga, Ga.-based provider of Tapistron CYP soft floorcovering and other related carpet products for the hospitality industry.

Dixie said it will hire most of the employees of Burtco, including its operations, sales and marketing staffs, and will continue to operate Burtco's tufting facility in Chickamauga. The operations will continue to be led by Elizabeth Moore, previously CEO of Burtco.

Burtco Enterprises was founded in 1978 as a custom carpet manufacturer specializing in printed and specialty carpets. With the development of graphics tufting, Burtco became one of the first in the industry to use computer chips to make graphics patterns.

Terms of the purchase will not immediately announced, but Dixie shares are trading nearly 4 percent higher today after the announcement was made.
