Georgia man sentenced to 14 years in meth case

A Georgia man was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Georgia and Tennessee, according to a news release from the United States Attorney William C. Killian.

Anthony Long, 42, of Chatsworth, Ga. was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Harry S. Mattice, Jr., on Sept. 24. He had previously pleaded guilty in May 2014, according to the release.

Upon release from prison, he will be subject to three years of supervised release by the U.S. Probation Office, the release said.

Long was one of 18 individuals from Tennessee and Georgia charged in a conspiracy to transport methamphetamine from Atlanta to Polk County, Tenn., where it was distributed., according to the release. In the plea agreement on file with the U.S. District Court, Long admitted that had driven two pounds of methamphetamine from Atlanta to Ranger, Ga., at the direction of his co-conspirators. When law enforcement attempted to stop his car, Long fled and led the officers on a high speed chase, exceeding 100 miles per hour on Interstate 75.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra L. Bay represented the United States in the case.
