Chattanooga police investigating possible hate crime

Chattanooga police are investigating an aggravated assault that's been classified as a hate crime, according to a press release from the Chattanooga Police Department. The assault occurred on Sept. 21, at about 2 a.m., the release said.

The victim, who police have not yet identified, suffered from a shattered jaw, and he said that four individuals attacked him simultaneously. The release said it's been classified as a hate crime after the victim said that, during the assault, his attackers yelled anti-gay slurs and struck him in the face with a hand gun.

The victim has identified three of the four suspects on Sept. 22, and warrants have been issued on those suspects.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Chattanooga Police at 423-698-2525.
