'Rapunzel' lets down her hair in Cleveland - Sept. 25

A troupe from the Lexington Children's Theatre in Kentucky will present a public performance of "Rapunzel" tonight, Sept. 25, in Cleveland, Tenn.

"Rapunzel" is the story of a young girl held captive in a tower by her overprotective Nan. As Rapunzel's hair grows longer, her tower grows higher, and the curious child becomes more dissatisfied with the safety of her entrapment. She soon decides it's time for a bit of adventure.

During their visit, the actors also plan daytime performances of "Rapunzel" and "The Long Road to Freedom" (about the Underground Railroad) for students. The Arts in Education Committee of the Allied Arts Council of Cleveland/Bradley County will provide support for busing and tickets.

The troupe's visit is made possible by an Arts Project Support grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, awarded to Lee University's theater program for the fifth consecutive year.

Tonight's public performance starts at 7 in the Dixon Center at Lee University, 1120 N. Ocoee St. The play is recommended for grades K-3, and is regarded as an opportunity to learn about fairy tales, causes and effects, and the consequences of actions.

Tickets for all ages are $5. For more information, call 423-614-8360.
