Nine-time champion Maggie Scott from Charleston rallied to force a playoff with Brentwood's Linda Wimberly on Wednesday at Tennessee Women's Senior Amateur golf tournament Wednesday at Old Hickory Country Club, but Wimberly prevailed with a par on the first playoff hole to claim the 2014 title. Scott did claim the super-senior award. Crossville's Jean Kraft finished in third place at 236, six strokes behind Wimberly and Scott.

• Four-time champion and 2013 runner-up David Noll Jr. and fellow Dalton resident Davis Kirk are among the 120 golfers who will attempt today to be among the low 32 and advance in the Atlanta Amateur Match Play tournament at Druid Hills Golf Club. Match play will run Friday through Sunday at the site of the first Atlanta Amateur 100 years ago. Former Signal Mountain resident and Baylor School golfer Michael Morrison of Roswell, Ga., also is in the field for stroke-play qualifying.

Soccer

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team ralled to claim a 3-3 tie Wednesday night against Alabama A&M at Finley Stadium. UTC's Crystal Mackezyk scored twice in the match, including the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 88th minute of play. Mackezyk has now scored seven goals on the season. The Mocs were trailing 3-1 in the 80th minute when McKenzie Gregg scored to pull UTC within one and set up Mackezyk's tying strike.

Volleyball

• Covenant College defeated Piedmont 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-16) in USA South volleyball Wednesday night at Demorest, Ga., led by Ginny Moore and Chelsea VanDyk with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Schuyler Moore had 28 assists, and Chloe Carlson led the Scots defense with 22 digs, and Christina Argaez added 12 digs.

• UTC's Lauren Gainer was named the Southern Conference student athlete of the week on Wednesday, after helping lead the Mocs to a second-place finish at the Scenic City Showdown over the weekend with 22 kills and a team-best 10 blocks. Gainer is an exercise science major with a 3.6 GPA, who made the Dean's List and Honor Roll both semesters last school year. UTC will open SoCon play this weekend at home against Samford on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match against East Tennessee State.
