Woman shot in leg while in vehicle in Red Bank

Officers responded to a reported shooting into a vehicle Wednesday about 7:30 p.m. at the 100 block of East Newberry Street, which intersects with Dayton Boulevard, according to a news release from the Red Bank Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle reported to the police that he was traveling eastbound on Newberry Street when he heard something strike the passenger side door, the release said.

The passenger next to him, Rebecca Giles, 31, of Hixson, yelled in pain and was struck one time in the right leg by a bullet, according to the release.

Giles was transported to a local hospital by EMS for treatment of a nonlife-threatening injury, according to the release.

Officers have detained suspect Billy Ray Bowman of 110 E. Newberry St., and are transporting him to the Hamilton County Jail pending a charge of reckless endangerment in association with this shooting.
