Man charged with attempted murder en route to Ooltewah business

Collegedale Police stopped Ray D. Stewart, of Collegedale, on his way to Hawker Powersource in Ooltewah at approximately 2 p.m. today on his way to allegedly kill an employee, according to a news release from the Collegedale Police Department.

An individual called the police before Stewart arrived at Hawker Powersource, and it was also disclosed that Stewart had been drinking. Several minutes after the call, police stopped a vehicle matching the description of Stewart's car as it was pulling into the parking lot of Hawker Powersource, according to the release.

The release said Stewart had "a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person." He was taken into custody on a DUI, and police also found a loaded 9 mm pistol, extra magazine and box of 9mm bullets in his car.

As a result, Stewart is charged with attempted murder, driving while intoxicated and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. He is being held on $260,000 bond at the Hamilton County Jail.
