East Tennessee State defeated the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga 3-1 in Southern Conference volleyball Saturday at Maclellan Gym, dropping the Mocs to 0-2 in the league and 7-10 overall. Meredith Hardy had 19 kills and Khadijah Wiley had 14 for ETSU (5-11, 1-1) in the 25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24 match, while Kristen Favre had 31 assists and Jamie Rutledge added 18 and Katie Muey served six aces. Allie Davenport had 12 kills and Julimar Alvarado and Kristy Wieser added nine and eight for UTC. Anne Bachmann had 19 assists and Lauren Greenspoon had 13,

• Bryan College extended its volleyball winning streak to 13 matches in winning Lee University's tourmament with 3-1 defeats of Campbellsville and Lee on Saturday. Kara Stamper had 21 kills and Rachel Mosley and Ashley Mattoch combined for 21 against Campbellsville for Bryan (14-3), which got 40 assists and five aces from Taylor Fink and 16 and 13 digs from Chelsi Roark and Madison Akins. Stamper had 15 kills, Mosley and Mattoch had 11 each and Meghan Lowry added 10 in the 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 win over Lee (5-6), when Fink had 43 assists and 12 digs to go with Akins' 13. Roark served five aces. Lauren Williams led Lee with 13 kills, Latrice Johnson adding 11 kills and 12 digs, Erin Hill contributing 10 kills and 14 assists, Sadie Johnson setting 24 assists and Stephanie Hernandez making 21 digs. Earlier, the Lady Flames won 3-1 over Southern Wesleyan (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22) as Williams had 15 kills, Johnson had 11 plus 13 digs, Catherine Conley made 10 kills, Johnson and Hill had 27 and 20 assists and Hernandez had 21 digs.

• The Covenant College volleyball team beat both Huntingdon and LaGrange 3-0 in USA South home matches Saturday. Chelsea VanDyk had seven kills and Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 17 assists in the 25-12, 25-10, 25-16 humbling of Huntingdon. Ginny Moore had eight kills and 12 digs, Schuyler Moore had 19 assists and Cora Schroeder had seven kills in the 25-13, 25-16, 25-11 defeat of LaGrange, when Christina Argaez and VanDyk had six and four aces. Chloe Carlson totaled 25 digs in the two wins for the Lady Scots (13-6, 3-1).

• Emily Stromberg and Katie O'Rourke had 14 and 12 kills as Berry College beat visiting Sewanee 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-19) in Southern Athletic Association volleyball Saturday. Sara Jayne Sutton's 15 digs led the Tigers (5-9, 1-3), who got seven kills from Diamond Stewart.

• Dalton State won 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23) over visiting Belhaven in Southern States Athletic Conference volleyball Friday night and prevailed 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 13-25, 26-24) Saturday against Faulkner. Kianna Delaney posted 13 kills, Michala Askew had 22 assists and Clarissa Weber added 15 assists Friday for DSC (7-5, 3-4), which got eight kills from Savannah Nelson. Saturday, Askew had 31 assists and 18 digs and Alyne Bianchi and Anna Metzler each had 11 kills with 18 digs. Karly Newman added 16 digs.

• After a 3-2 loss (19-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, 15-8) Friday night to four-year school Hiwassee College, Georgia Northwestern plays today at Walters State with the winner earning a spot in the NJCAA Region X tournament. Sabrina Garcia had 12 kills and Casey Chapman and Layna Jenkins added 11 and 10 against Hiwassee for the Lady Bobcats (2-4), and Holly Mount was in on five blocks.

Running

• Red Bank Middle School teacher Geno Phillips won the Raccoon Mountain 10-kilometer road race Saturday from the Laurel Point picnic area with a time of 35 minutes, 31 seconds, and Trisha Drobeck from Missoula, Mont., was the women's winner and third overall in 38:09. Dean Thompson was second in 36:26, and Troy Ketchum, David Kieu and Tripp McCallie also finished in less than 40 minutes. Chattanoogan Caleb Casey (18:43) and 13-year-old Knoxville resident Addison Smith (21:00) were the 5k winners, Smith finishing fifth overall.

• Dalton State won the men's race and Covenant was fourth in the North Georgia Cross Country Invitational meet Saturday at Oakwood, Ga., and DSC was fifth and Covenant sixth out of 12 women's teams. The Roadrunners had the top three finishers in the 8k - Spencer Head in 25:54, Paul Patterson in 26:27 and Brody Cook in 26:52 - and seven of the top 14. Paul Schupp was eighth, one spot ahead of Covenant's Eliot Kaufmann. In the women's 6k, DSC's Gloria Pascual and Natalie Hensley were 11th and 13th with Nayelli Jacoba 17th; Covenant's Ruthie Cargill was 20th.

Golf

• Although Bernadette Little is tied for second individually with a 71 and Cailey Gino is tied for seventh with a 74, the Lee University women's golf team is in 10th place out of 16 teams after the first round Saturday in the Lander Lady Bearcat tournament at Bluffton, S.C. Flagler and SCAD Savannah lead with 294s; Lee is at 312.

Football

• Tennessee Titans radio play-by-play broadcaster Mike Keith will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. Keith spent part of his early years as an East Brainerd resident.
