Lee's soccer Flames down Shawnee State 3-0 in soccer

Second-half goals by Quade Marinell, Arturo Rocha and Myles Scott gave the Lee University men's soccer team a 3-0 home victory Saturday night against Shawnee State.

Marinell broke the deadlock at 59:38 from an assist by Collin Cole. Scott assisted Rocha's score 18 minutes later and scored on a one-on-one with three minutes left for the Flames (5-2-1).

In Appalachian Athletic Conference play, Milligan defeated host Bryan 3-1 in the women's game and 2-1 in the men's game Saturday in Dayton, and undefeated Union College (9-0,2-0) edged the visiting Tennessee Wesleyan men 3-2 in overtime in Barbourville, Ky. But Wesleyan's women won 2-0 at Union and are 4-4-1 overall, 1-1 in the league. The TWC men are 3-3-1, 1-1, and Bryan's guys are 3-4-2, 0-2. Bryan's Lady Lions are 3-4, 1-2.

• Tennessee Temple 7, Warren Wilson 1: At Grace Academy, Mario Palva and Gerardo Mondragon scored two goals each and Tad Whitaker, Lewis Butcher and William Gonzalez also scored as the Crusaders leveled their record at 4-4. Palva also had two assists.

• Emory 3, Sewanee 0: At Atlanta, NCAA Division III's seventh-ranked Eagles (9-0-1) got two goals from Sebastia Hardington in dropping the Tigers to 3-6. Emory had outshot Sewanee 21-6.

• Hanover (w) 2, Sewanee 1: At Sewanee, Tenn., Anna Cornacchione's two goals dropped the Tigers to 5-3 despite a 15-11 edge in shots and a 5-1 margin in corner kicks. Jordan Najmabadi scored in the 42nd minute for Sewanee, but Cornacchione's second goal came in the 46th and held up as the differnce.

• Meredith (w) 3, Covenant 1: At Raleigh, N.C., Meredith McCarty had two early goals and a second-half assist before Rachel Bernard scored from a Ruth Terry assist in the USA South loss for Covenant (5-5-1, 3-1). Meredith (6-3-1, 4-0-1) had a 16-7 shots advantage.

• Birmingham-Southern 2, Covenant 1: At Birmingham, Joel Friesen gave Covenant (6-3-1) a lead at 54:23, but Patrick Erickson and Josh Wild followed with goals for the Panthers (6-1-1). The Scots had advantages of 17-9 in shots and 6-1 in corners.

Gann resets record

East Ridge High School graduate Brooke Gann is all alone as Trevecca Nazarene's women's soccer career goals leader after scoring one of the Trojans' three in Saturday's shutout win over Kentucky Wesleyan.

Her 89th-minute score gave her 27 goals, breaking a tie with former Trojan Kassie Evick. Gann assisted on the first goal and is second to Evick in TNU career points with 60.

Rhodes wins 4-1

Shauni Cowan scored two first-half goals as first-place Rhodes defeated Sewanee 4-1 in Southern Athletic Association field hockey Saturday.

Sewanee's Janie Spilman tied the score at 1 in the 23rd minute, but the Lynx (7-1, 3-0) went ahead again 11 minutes later and scored twice early in the second half. Gabrielle Fignar made 14 saves for the Tigers, who were outshot 28-8. Rhodes led 19-4 in penalty corners.
