Chattanooga police warn of assault on runner on Mississippi Avenue

The Chattanooga Police Department has issued a public service announcement to inform residents and runners about an assault call on Mississippi Avenue that occurred Monday morning about 7:30 a.m.

The victim was running when a suspect described as a black male, 5' 8"-5' 9" in height, weighing 180-200 pounds, assaulted them. The victim said that he had a short afro/flat-top hair style and was wearing khaki shorts and a dark colored button-up shirt, according to a news release from Chattanooga Police Department.

CPD suggests the following safety precautions for runners in the early mornings or late at night:

• Run with a partner or a dog in well-lit areas.

• Avoid unpopulated areas.

• Trust your intuition about a person or an area.

• Alter or vary your running route pattern.

• If you do use headphones, run with the volume low and just one earbud in.

• Have a cellular phone with you at all times.

If anyone has information regarding this suspect please call 423-698-2525. If anyone sees any suspicious behavior or any possible suspect that may be related to this incident please call 911 immediately.
