Extra police officers will be patrolling Dalton (Ga.) High School on Thursday after a threatening note was found in a classroom on Wednesday afternoon.

The note, which was found on the floor of one of one the classrooms close to the end of the school day, mentioned a threat against the school on Thursday.

Dalton police investigators spent the early evening hours at the Dalton High School campus working to determine who wrote the note. Police and school authorities take any threat against the schools seriously and work to hold anybody responsible accountable.

The police department has an officer assigned to the Dalton High School campus full time as a school resource officer. In addition to that officer, the police department has plans to increase the police presence not just at the high school but also other school campuses in the city to ensure that all students will be safe tomorrow.

"We will be working closely with the school to identify the individual that made the threat," said DPD Assistant Chief Cliff Cason. "We will have an increased presence at DHS and other city schools tomorrow above and beyond what we normally have."

Anyone with information about this threat is asked to please contact detective Sam Eaton at 706-278-9085, extension 9158.
