Newman Tech to build plant

ALBERTVILLE, Ala.- Auto parts supplier Newman Technology has broken ground on a $15 million factory in Albertville that will employ some 60 workers.

The company supplies parts to the Honda Manufacturing of Alabama plant in Lincoln and will begin production in its new facility in 2013. It makes door sashes and exhaust components for Honda, Acura and Subaru.

The new facility is the company's first in Alabama.

Alabama jobless falls to 7.3 %

Alabama's unemployment rate fell for the eighth straight month to 7.3 percent for March and hit its lowest mark in more than three years.

The March rate was down from a revised rate of 7.5 percent in February and a high of 10 percent in July. The state Department of Industrial Relations reported that the last time Alabama's unemployment rate was this low was December 2008.

By comparison, unemployment last month was 7.9 percent in Tennessee and 9 percent in Georgia.

The figures released Friday by the state show 157,378 Alabamians were looking for work in March, which is down more than 46,000 people from a year ago when the state's unemployment rate was 9.3 percent.
