Hutton to expand Salisbury center

Chattanooga-based Hutton Co. is developing a new phase to a North Carolina shopping center.

Wallace Commons in Salisbury, N.C., is adding a Belk store along with Michaels Arts and Crafts, Ulta Cosmetics and Shoe Carnival.

The expansion will total about 112,000 square feet, and all stores are to open in fall 2013.

"We are pleased to be providing this quality shopping opportunity for the residents of Salisbury," said Geoff Smith, president of Hutton Co. and Hutton Construction Inc. "It has been an honor to work alongside the Belk team to make this development possible."


VW global sales rise 15 percent

Citing strong sales in the U.S., China and Russia, Volkswagen AG on Friday reported it delivered nearly 15 percent more vehicles worldwide in October than a year earlier.

The maker of such brands as VW, Porsche, and Audi and models including the Chattanooga-made Passat said it delivered 788,700 vehicles last month, up from 688,000 a year earlier.

For the year through October, deliveries rose to 7.5 million cars, which was 10 percent more than in the same period last year.

Also through October, deliveries in the U.S. were a third higher at 481,100, according to the automaker.
