Wal-Mart has pulled a batch of powdered infant formula from more than 3,000 of its stores nationwide after a newborn Missouri boy who was given the formula became gravely ill with a suspected bacterial infection and died after being taken off life support, the retailer said Wednesday.
Walmart broke ground Friday on a supercenter in Sweetwater, Tenn.
The store, going up at Highways 11 and 68, will create about 300 jobs, officials said.
"This store will be a great convenience for the residents of Sweetwater," said Sweetwater Mayor Doyle Lowe.
Walmart Market Manager Jackie Chapman said communities like Sweetwater recognize the value in bringing Walmart to their neighborhoods.
