Edge magazine to highlight area business

A new monthly magazine about business in the Chattanooga region is being introduced this week.

The Edge magazine, highlighting where business meets in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, is being produced by Target Publishing Co., an affiliate of the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

The initial 68-page edition features more than two dozen articles, including a cover story on five economic trends expected for the region in 2013 and lists of the biggest local employers, banks, real estate agents and business startups across the four-state area.

The magazine is mailed and delivered each month to a select list of business owners and senior managers across a 16-county distribution area. The magazine also is available online at www.meets forbusiness.com.

Corps allays barge concerns

Efforts taken to keep a crucial stretch of the drought-starved Mississippi River open to barge traffic should be sufficient to avert a shipping shutdown, Army Corps of Engineers and Coast Guard officials said Friday.

The corps said crews have made "fantastic" progress clearing treacherous bedrock from a channel about 150 miles south of St. Louis near Thebes, Ill. -- the portion of the river that has grown especially worrisome.
