Jersey Mike's Subs, a new franchised submarine sandwich shop entering the Chattanooga market, will open the first of at least three new restaurants planned in Chattanooga next week.

Ryan Hendrix, a 37-year-old co-owner of four franchised Jersey Mike's Subs in Charleston, S.C., has moved to Chattanooga to expand the Jersey Mike's franchise into the Chattanooga area. He will open the first local sub sandwich shop in the Overlook shopping center near Gunbarrel and Shallowford Roads on Wednesday.

Hendrix's partner for the past five years, Andrew Brooks, will stay in Charleston and oversee the South Carolina restaurants.

"Chattanooga is a great town and we're excited about expand here," Hendrix said Wednesday.

Jersey Mike's Subs come in mini, regular and giant sizes with a wide variety of meats and toppings. The typical restaurant seats about 30 to 50 persons and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

To mark the grand opening of the first Jersey Mike's Subs, the franchise owners will hold a grand opening and free sub fundraiser from Wednesday, June 4 to Sunday, June 8 to support Chambliss Center for Children.

The new restaurant, located at 2260 Gunbarrel Road, is circulating 2,500 coupons in Chattanooga offering a free regular sub for a minimum $2 contribution to Chambliss Center for Children. For each offer redeemed, Jersey Mike's will donate $2 to Chambliss Center for Children.

"As is the tradition at Jersey Mike's, our grand opening will commence with a five-day fundraiser to support our community," Hendrix said. "We are thrilled to be working with the Chambliss Center for Children to support its programs, which benefit so many children in our area."

Since 2010, Jersey Mike's locations throughout the country have raised nearly $10 million for local charities.

Started in 1956, Jersey Mike's now has 1,300 restaurants open and under development nationwide, including new franchises in Bristol, Nashville and Chattanooga in Tennessee. In the past three years, the company has nearly doubled in size.
