The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Chattanooga fell 1.9 cents per gallon last week to $2.47 a gallon, or 28 cents per gallon below the U.S. average, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 170 gas outlets in Chattanooga.
Nationwide, the average price of a gallon of gas rose 0.4 cents per gallon to $2.75, GasBuddy said.
Chattanooga gas prices are up 4.5 cents from a month ago but still average nearly 95 cents per gallon less than the same day one year ago.
"Gasoline prices are poised to begin declining at a faster pace after staying relatively steady across much of the U.S. this past week," Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy's senior petroleum analyst, said Monday. "With forecasts pointing to a quiet hurricane season, the latter months of the summer look ideal for hitting the road," DeHaan said.
