Under Construction: Chattanooga Kidney Center moving to former Brainerd Road Food Lion

photo The former Brainerd Food Lion is being turned into a kidney clinic that will offer dialysis treatments.

Project: Chattanooga Kidney Center's new headquarters

Location: 3810 Brainerd Road

Contractor: Fort Construction

Scope: The center is moving into the old Food Lion on Brainerd Road, construction site manager Ed "Trey" Jolley said. His crew completely gutted the building, which was built in 1991, and is renovating the entire interior. The Chattanooga Kidney Center dialysis center will initially occupy half the building. "We're building them a great big fancy conference room with two 60-inch plasma TVs," Jolley said. "It will be spiffy."

Timeline: Construction will be finished by April 1, Chattanooga Kidney Center will open in the new building on April 15

Background: Chattanooga Kidney Center operates six dialysis centers in the Tennessee Valley. When a patient undergoes dialysis -- usually done a few hours a day, multiple times a week -- a machine does the job that the kidneys normally do: filtering waste out of the patient's bloodstream.
