Miller & Martin promotes 5

Miller & Martin has promoted five attorneys from its Chattanooga office to member status.

Zachary H. Greene is a member of the firm's litigation department and represents and counsels individuals and companies in matters including complex litigation involving contracts, business torts, statutory claims, intellectual property and other issues.

R. Tyler Hand, a member of the firm's corporate practice group, advises on business transactions and tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions, securities, corporate finance and general business planning.

Robert F. Parsley practices primarily in the area of civil litigation, with concentration in commercial, construction, health care, insurance litigation and appellate practice.

John "David" Spiller Jr. joined Miller & Martin in 2012 after practicing in Austin, Texas, with the Supreme Court of Texas and with the firm Graves, Dougherty, Hearon & Moody.

M. Craig Smith concentrates his practice in the area of bankruptcy and creditors rights and litigation.


Winton promoted at BlueCross

Dakasha Winton has been promoted to director and associate general counsel of state government relations for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

Winton's primary responsibilities are to facilitate exchange of information between BlueCross and state regulators and policymakers.

"In our industry, there is a constant flow of information back-and-forth between the company, regulators and others in state government," said David Locke, BlueCross vice president of state government relations. "Dakasha knows our industry well from both the business and government sides, which helps keep things running smoothly."

Winton joined BlueCross in 2009 as an attorney in BlueCross' state government relations office. Prior to that, she was chief counsel to the insurance, securities and TennCare oversight divisions for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.


Bolen earns CPA

Diana Bolen, staff accountant with Chattanooga-based accounting firm Johnson, Hickey & Murchison PC, has passed the Uniform CPA Exam, earning the designation of Certified Public Accountant, the firm announced.

"Diana's hard work in completing the 14-hour exam allows her to play a larger role in JHM's professional accounting services as a fully licensed CPA," said Dean Krech, audit partner at JHM. "We're looking forward to Diana's stepped-up contribution to JHM's many relationships with Chattanooga business, government, nonprofit, construction and hospital clients," Krech said.

Bolen, a resident of Ooltewah, is a graduate of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, where she earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.


Brooks partners with TrueNorth

The Brooks Group has partnered with TrueNorth Capital Partners, said Jackson Brooks, president and owner of The Brooks Group.

The Brooks Group was established in 2011 to serve small- and middle-sized businesses in need of management assistance relating to material control, purchasing, sales/marketing and new product development.

TrueNorth Capital Partners is an investment banking companying specializing in merger and acquisition advisory, private placement of debt & equity, restructuring & distressed transactions, valuations and other corporate advisory. This teaming effort will offer synergy between the two firms, and will establish coverage in the southeastern portion of the United States, said Brooks.
