Under Construction: Gander Mountain outdoors store opening in Hixson

Size: 50,000 square feet

Location: In the Oak Park Town Center on Highway 153.

Scope: Gander Mountain, which operates 127 stores in 24 states, plans to open its fourth Tennessee store this fall in space vacated by Goody's and other nearby retail tenants in the Oak Park Town Center, including a relocated Shoe Carnival store. Chattanooga is one of 10 markets in which the sporting goods retailer is building new outlets during 2014.

Store offerings: Once open, Gander Mountain will offer a variety of new and used firearms, and a wide selection of gear and accessories for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery.

History: Gander Mountain was founded in Wilmont, Wisc., in 1960 and is headquartered in St. Paul, Minn.

Store slogan: "We live outdoors."

Owner: Wolford Development Chattanooga LLC owns the 178,000-square-foot Oak Park Town Center, which also includes a Walmart superstore.

Contractor: TCI Robin Block in LaCrosse, Wisc.

Investment: $1.5 million

Schedule: Construction and renovation of the retail space began in January and will be finished by this fall when the new Gander Mountain will open Sept. 2.
