"Kinky Boots," the high-heeled hit musical with songs by pop icon Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein, stops at the Tivoli Theatre for three shows Tuesday through Thursday nights, Dec. 12-14.
The musical is a celebration of friendships and the belief that you can change the world when you change your mind.
Based on the 2005 British film "Kinky Boots," written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth and inspired by true events, the musical tells the story of Charlie Price.
Having inherited Price & Son shoe factory from his father, Charlie is struggling to live up to his father's expectations and continue the family business. With the factory's future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely, but spectacular, form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos.
Charlie forms an unlikely partnership with the cabaret performer and drag queen to produce a line of high-heeled boots and save the business. In the process, Charlie and Lola discover that they are not so different after all.
"Kinky Boots" has won six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography. Its message is that sometimes the best way to fit in is to stand out.
