Ringgold Playhouse will stage "True West," a signature work of late playwright Sam Shepard, in seven productions over two weekends beginning Thursday, April 19, in the Ringgold, Ga., depot.

Joanna Lewis is directing this tale of sibling rivalry dealing with two brothers who clash over a film script in their mother's lonely house.

Austin, the achiever screenwriter, who has worked hard to escape the legacy of his alcoholic father, is working on a script he has sold to a producer. Then brother Lee swoops in. He's a broke, a drifter, cunning and a jack- of-all-trades who relies on his charm and charisma to con people.

Lee pitches his own idea for a movie to the same producer - who then wants Austin to junk his bleak love story and write Lee's trashy Western.

Cast as Austin is Jonathan Harris. Adam Cook plays the petty-thief, con-artist brother. Julia Wyant is cast as their mother, and Steve Jordan plays producer Saul Kimmer.
