Location: On eastern tip of Look-out Mountain, just west of downtown

Size: Lookout Mountain is a nearly 100-mile-long extenuation of the Cumberland Plateau, south of the Tennessee River. The town of Lookout Mountain, Ga., adjoins the town of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., just across the state line.

Government: Bill Glascock heads a council-manager form of government. The town has five council members.

Best kept secret: A mile-long network of sidewalks and pathways around the city is almost complete after two years of work.

Fun fact: Paul Carter, founder of the original Fairyland community, came up with the idea of miniature golf. The world's first minature golf course, in the 1920s, was on what is now the upper Fairyland Club.

Most famous resident: Joe McGinness -- a two-time winner of the Boston Marathon (1978, 1979) in his age group, 60-plus, and a founding member of the Chattanooga Track Club. He also was one of the town's early mayors.
