'Best of the Best' quilt submissions coming due

The McMinn County Living Heritage Museum in Athens, Tenn., has set a July 20 deadline for submissions to its National Heritage Quilt Show in September.

Since opening in 1982, the museum has showcased hundreds of vintage and contemporary quilts in the annual show and has been nationally recognized for its support of textile arts, according to Lisa Chastain, curator of exhibits and collections.

The museum's 30th annual show, Sept. 12-29, will feature "The Best of the Best: Quilting's Finest Expressions." All interpretations of the theme are welcome in traditional and art quilt categories. Cash prizes will be awarded.

"While our shows usually have a specific artistic or historical theme ... this year's show will allow quilters to choose the quilts they are most proud of, regardless of imagery," Chastain said.

Entrants are limited to one quilt. The $20 entry fee must be submitted with the application by 5 p.m. next Friday.

Entry forms and submission guidelines are available online at www.livingheritagemuseum.com under the "Exhibits/Textiles" link.
