An opening reception for "ReForm: A Habitat for Humanity Exhibition" is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the AVA Gallery, 30 Frazier Ave.
The Association for Visual Arts and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area are presenting this exhibition of works by six local artists: Adam Kirby, Stephen Nemecek, Andrew Nigh, Carrie Pendergrass, Karen Rudolph and Ann Steverson.
The theme was to center on home and Habitat's mission of bringing people together to build homes and communities. Artists were challenged to use repurposed materials in their works, with some materials coming from Habitat's ReStore. The retail store accepts donations of new and gently used home and building supplies, which are then sold to the public at substantial savings over their retail value.
The goal of the exhibit was to illustrate the relationship visual art can have with social change. All artworks will be for sale, with proceeds split evenly between the artist, AVA and Habitat for Humanity.
"Reform" continues through March 29. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
