Photographer Webb captures 'Satan's Breath' for In-Town exhibit

A new collection of black-and-white photographs by Virginia Webb are featured this month on the front wall of In-Town Gallery, 26A Frazier Ave. Called "Satan's Breath," the exhibit depicts an American thermal plant that has been in constant operation since 1893. Webb was able to view the plant from all directions and capture it in "perfect early morning light," she says in a news release. "The stairs winding their way up the standpipes were constantly swept by erupting steam, and I thought of how dangerous it must have been to climb those stairs in the winter. The unrelenting steam was a telling hazard, like Satan's breath." Webb will share her photography adventures during the opening reception, set for 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7. Regular hours at the gallery are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 423-267-9214 or visit www.intowngallery.com.
