'Rock-star' pianist Liszt to be honored at Bryan College

The Bryan College Music Department will honor Franz Liszt during a 200th Birthday Celebration beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Rudd Auditorium on the Dayton, Tenn., campus.

"Liszt was a flamboyant virtuoso pianist who wowed audiences like a modern-day rock star," said Bryan music professor Dr. Sigrid Luther. "This concert will highlight some of his music for piano, voice and other instruments, and will be followed by a birthday party with cake."

Piano solos will be performed by faculty members Luther and Jason DuRoy, students Jarod Soltis and Michelle Molzahn, and Lee University student Matthew Wilkinson. Vocal selections will be presented by the Bryan Chorale and Chamber singers under the direction of Dr. David Luther, and by soloists Matt Albin and Kelly Miller.

Violinist Miroslav Hristov, a member of the University of Tennessee music faculty who has performed internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor, also will perform and will be accompanied by Duroy.

Admission is free.
