The Tennessee Schmaltz klezmer band will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 20, as part of the Folklife Summer Music and Dance Series at Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St.

The Knoxville-based band, which originated in 1995, combines lively klezmer music with Southern Appalachian and jazz idioms.

Klezmer music, marked by its celebratory style, is the traditional instrumental music of East European Jews.

Band members are Manny Herz (keyboard), Dan Shapira (accordion), Carolyn Silver-Alford (vocals), Larry Hoffman (clarinet) and Rob Heller (clarinet, washtub bass).

They have performed at events ranging from sell-out concerts and bluegrass festivals to weddings and bar mitzvahs.

Saturday's performance is free with paid admission ($11.95) to the museum, which will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
