Conway Twitty tribute in Spring City (June 15)

Jack Brickles, the last surviving member of The Twitty Birds, will present a tribute show, "In Memory of My Friend Conway Twitty," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Tennessee Valley Theatre, 184 W. Jackson Ave., in Spring City.

Brickles says he was a member of Twitty's backing band for two to three years and "was with him when he was rock 'n' roll and flipped to country." That genre switch came in 1965 for Twitty who, according to accounts, had long harbored a desire to play country music, despite his success on the pop charts.

Brickles sang on three of the first four songs Twitty recorded with Decca. In his heyday, the musician also shared the stage with such stars as Barbara Mandrell, Jerry Lee Lewis and Crystal Gayle.

Saturday's concert will feature many of Twitty's No. 1 hits, including "It's Only Make Believe," "Hello Darlin' " and "You've Never Been This Far Before." Brickles also will share stories about his time on the road.

Tickets are $10. For reservations, call 423-365-PLAY or visit www.tennesseevalleytheatre.com.
