Local and visiting artists will explore how the fusion of coffee and music has inspired composers at 4 p.m. Friday, March 29, and 11 and 5 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at The Camp House, 1427 Williams St.
The program will feature J.S. Bach's little-known "Coffee Cantata"; selections from "Separation Anxiety," a 2012 composition by Covenant College alumnus Justin Johns; and effusive string works by classical masters. The performances will be less than an hour, followed by a Q&A and a chance to interact with the performers.
In lieu of an entrance fee, donations will be accepted at the door or online through a Kickstarter project, Music on Caffeine.
Project founder and violinist Evelyn Petcher leads the ensemble. Guest artist will be violinist Marie-Eve Poupart, a native of Quebec, Canada. Also performing will be local performers Hans Anderson (cello), Christa Dingman (flute), Robert Elder (viola), Darrin Hassevoort (tenor), Tim Hinck (harpsichord), Christopher Oglesby (baritone/bass) and Sara Snider Schone (mezzo-soprano).
Petcher, a Chattanooga native now teaching and performing in the Baltimore area, received a 2012 Career Grant from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University to start this project.
