Korby Lenker wrote the song "Punkin Brown," about a snake-handling preacher, after reading the memoir "Salvation on Sand Mountain." Then living in West Virginia, he decided to drive until he found one of the mountain churches mentioned in the book. "I ended up going home with one of the families," he wrote in his online biography. "We rode home with the snake in the box in the backseat."
