More regional festivals

Three additional regional festivals are scheduled this weekend.

Rhododendron Festival

When: 6:30-10 tonight, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday (times Central).

Where: Brow Park on North Cool Street, Mentone, Ala.

Attractions: The party kicks off with storytelling around a bonfire tonight on the town square. At the festival, there will be more than 40 craft and food vendors, barbecue. Rhododendrons will be available for sale.

Benefits: The festival is sponsored by Mentone Area Preservation Association. Proceeds have helped fund projects such as a veterans memorial in the city park, donations to the local fire department, Boy Scouts and schools.


Log Cabin Days

When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday (times Central).

Where: McBay's Log Cabin Village, two miles north of Pikeville, Tenn., on Highway 127.

Attractions: Craft vendors, Pikeville Idol competition, Civil War re-enactors, heritage living skills, porch pickers, storytelling, canine agility demonstrations.

For kids: Kids Korner with make-it-and-take-it activities such as dreamcatchers, weaving, painting magnet molds.


Days of Summer Carnival

When: Today through Sunday.

Where: 1103 N. Main St., LaFayette, Ga. (former Food Lion location).

Attractions: This five-day event, which started Wednesday, continues with special themes for its remaining dates. Tonight is Date Night from 5 to 10. Parents can let the kids explore the carnival while they dance to the music of DJ Keith Smith. Saturday is Reading for Rides from 2 to 10 p.m. This literacy effort offers children free rides at the carnival as a reward for reading. Entertainment includes free concerts by Corbette Jackson at 2 p.m. and Zach Cooper at 7:30 p.m. Sunday is Fitness Day from 2 to 10. A Midway Mile run at 4 p.m. gives runners a chance to earn carnival rides for running around the midway.

Admission: Free. Carnival tickets $15 for unlimited rides.

Benefits: Family Crisis Center of Walker, Dade, Catoosa and Chattooga Counties and Walker County Chamber of Commerce.
