Model airplane Flying Circus is Saturday

An aerial view, taken from a model helicopter during last year's Flying Circus, offers a preview of what to expect at the third annual event sponsored by the Chattanooga Radio Control Club. The term "Flying Circus" was first applied to the infamous Red Baron's group of colorfully painted fighter planes during World War I. The club will treat spectators to a continuous flying display of model aircraft -- from antique biplanes to modern jets, both fixed-wing and helicopters -- as well as gravity-defying stunts by giant-scale aerobatic models. Visitors can even take a turn flying a radio-controlled plane. Gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 21, and flying is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Summit Field, 4223 Old Woodland Drive, Ooltewah. Concessions will be available. Suggested donation is $5 per person, $10 per carload. Proceeds benefit Siskin Children's Institute. Find out more at www.crccflyers.org.
