Santa aboard Blue Ridge railway trains - Nov. 29 - Dec. 21

Officials with the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, 241 Depot St. in downtown Blue Ridge, Ga., report they've gotten the go-ahead straight from the North Pole to start this season's Santa Express and Night Train to Santa's Pavilion excursions on Friday, Nov. 29.

The Santa Express is a short trip (about an hour) designed for children to hear a Christmas story, sing carols with the elves and visit with Santa. Each child receives a railroad souvenir, activity book and candy cane.

Rides will continue through Tuesday, Dec. 24. Departure times vary.

The fare is $38 for adults and children 13 and older, $22 for children 2-12.

The Night Train to Santa's Pavilion is a four-hour outing with a two-hour layover that affords time to eat and shop in the border towns of McCaysville, Ga., and Copperhill, Tenn. Santa visits with the children in each car and gives each child a railroad souvenir and candy cane. He will pose for photos on the train or in the Christmas Pavilion during the layover.

Rides continue on various dates through Saturday, Dec. 21. Departure is at 4 p.m., return at 8 p.m. Boarding begins 45 minutes before trip time.

The fare is $46 for adults and children 13 and older, $25 for children 2-12.
