Fairy House Workshop at Nature Center - March 22

photo On Saturday, Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center will sponsor a Fairy House Workshop in which participants will help populate the grounds with a village of homes for the wee folk, such as these at Signal Mountain Nursery.

Officials with Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center are looking for home builders who can think big and build small. The luxury accommodations they'll be creating are intended for the wee folk of the forest.

The crew will go step-by-step through the development of the village at a Fairy House Workshop scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 22.

"We'll learn a little bit about how fairy houses started and then receive a chest of fairy gold, so you can buy building and decorating materials in the fairy marketplace," says a news release.

Builders will explore the arboretum grounds for just the right site for each house, collecting nature's castoffs along the way.

"Nothing is ever picked to build a fairy house," says the news release. "The fairies wouldn't like that."

Participants are welcome to bring natural materials from home, but all of the construction projects will remain at the Nature Center, 400 Garden Road. Photos of the creations will be posted on the website and emailed to those who take part. Participants also should bring a reusable water bottle to fill.

Cost is $10 for member families, $15 for nonmember families. To register, call 423-821-1160, ext. 0
