Warner Park Pool expands hours, adds floating obstacle course

With a new floating obstacle course, extended hours, birthday party rentals and Chattanooga's largest spray park, local officials are working to make the Warner Park Pool the coolest place in Chattanooga this summer.

"In a time when outdoor aquatics are sometimes struggling, we're excited to be expanding and offering more," said Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Public Relations Coordinator Brian Smith. "A lot of people have the mentality that Warner Park isn't safe, but the whole location is completely revamped. If you haven't been in a while, I can guarantee you will be surprised."

The Warner Park Pool, which has been a Chattanooga fixture since the 1920s, will be outfitted this summer with a 54-foot floating obstacle course created by the German Aqua Sport company Wibit Sports GmbH.

"The Wibit can be used by everyone at the pool," said Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Aquatics Director Peggy Grall. "It's highly entertaining and it's different every time you get on it. Depending on how many people are on it, it can rock or move."

The spray park will also extend its operation season this summer from May 12-Sept. 15 and offer extended hours, as will the pool, on Fridays beginning at 10 a.m. Grall said the decision to open early came due to moms who wanted to bring their toddlers to swim or play before nap time.

"You asked for it and now you got it," she said. "We're excited because we can actively meet the needs of moms and toddlers."

Loacted at 1254 E. Third St., admission to the pool and spray park costs $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 3-13 and is free for children age 2 and under. The Warner Park Pool and Spray and Play Park are also offering birthday party rentals. For more information about rentals, call 697-1334.

Adult lap swim sessions that cost $2 per session will continue this summer beginning June 6 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:15-6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until noon. A water fitness class will also be offered every Saturday beginning June 6 at 11 a.m. for $2.
