A guide to what's new, what's coming back for fall TV

Get those DVRs ready, Chattanooga. The fall season of television is upon us, with many, many choices.

"I can't wait (to watch "The Walking Dead,") Susie Broome Abernathy posted on the Times Free Press Facebook page. "(My son and I) have waited months for it. Our Sunday night ritual, 'TWD' and taco salad!"

The AMC zombie series was a favorite of other readers as well. Enthusiasm also arose for "American Horror Story" and "Grey's Anatomy."

"There's only one show I ever go out of my way to watch," wrote Holly Butter Zuckerman, "and that's 'Grey's Anatomy.'"

And Dotty Herd posted that she was wondering about when the new "NCIS" comes on.

Here are some highlights of the first two months of the fall television season.

Mon., Sept. 10

8 p.m., "The Voice," NBC: Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton return as celebrity coaches in the reality talent contest that begins with blind auditions.

Tues., Sept. 11

9 p.m., "Go On," NBC (new): After his wife dies, a sportscaster joins a grief support group of quirky characters. Matthew Perry stars.

9:30 p.m., "The New Normal," NBC (new): A young single mother becomes a gestational surrogate for a gay couple who want to start a family.

10 p.m., "Parenthood," NBC: The expansive Braverman family is back for the fourth season in this series about the ups and downs of the multigenerational clan.

10 p.m., "Sons of Anarchy," FX: An outlaw motorcycle club in fictional Charming, Calif. In the fifth-season premiere, trouble brews, and Jimmy Smits joins the cast.

Wed., Sept. 12

8 p.m., "The X Factor," Fox: Aspiring musicians compete for a $5 million recording contract. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato join the series as judges.

10 p.m., "Guys with Kids," NBC (new): From producer Jimmy Fallon, a comedy about men balancing fatherhood and guy time. (Regular time, Wednesdays at 8:30).

Thurs., Sept. 13

9 p.m., "Glee," Fox: With half the members having graduated, the glee club rebuilds, and grad-uates adjust to life outside Lima.

10 p.m., "The Real Housewives of Miami," Bravo: New women arrive in Miami in this reality series about the lives of Miami housewives.

Fri., Sept. 14

8 p.m., "Shark Tank," ABC: Multi-millionaires choose to invest in new business ideas or pass on them.

9 p.m., "What Would You Do?," ABC: Hidden cameras look at how people react to tough situations.

9 p.m., "The Ultimate Fighter," FX: Mixed-martial-arts competitors live together and vie for a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

10 p.m., "20/20," ABC: The investigative television news-magazine with hosts Elizabeth Vargas and Chris Cuomo is ABC's oldest prime-time series.

Mon., Sept. 17

8 p.m., "Bones," Fox: Forensic scientist Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI agent Seeley Booth investigate murders, now while balancing life with a baby.

9 p.m., "The Mob Doctor," Fox (new): A surgeon works to pay off her brother's gambling debts by attending the medical needs of the Chicago Mafia.

10 p.m., "Revolution," NBC (new): A girl and her uncle search for her kidnapped brother in the post-apocalyptic future.

8 p.m., "Survivor: Philippines," CBS: Tune in to see who will be voted off the island this season.

9 p.m., "The Office," NBC: The gang at Dunder Mifflin returns for a final season, which will launch the new Rainn Wilson series, "The Farm."

9:30 p.m., "Parks and Recreation," NBC: Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope has gone from Parks Department employee to city councilwoman in the fifth season of the mockumentary.

9 p.m., "Grimm," NBC: Fairy-tale creatures exist in the modern world in this show about a detective who hunts supernatural creatures.

Mon., Sept. 24

8 p.m. "How I Met Your Mother," CBS: Who's getting married? Who's breaking up? And will we ever meet the mother?

8 p.m., "Dancing With the Stars: All Stars," ABC: Past favorites are back for an all-star season of the ballroom competition series.

8:30 p.m., "Partners," CBS: A longtime friendship is tested when one guy gets engaged and another hooks up with a male nurse.

9 p.m., "Two Broke Girls," CBS: Hard-up Max and fallen princess Caroline work at a diner to make ends meet while trying to start their own cupcake business.

8 p.m., "New Girl," Fox: The misadventures of quirky Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel) and her three male roommates.

8:30 p.m., "Ben and Kate," Fox (new): A spontaneous young man moves in with his sister to help her raise her young daughter.

9 p.m., "NICS: Los Angeles," CBS: The NCIS spinoff follows undercover agents. The 4th season ended with Callen (Chris O'Donnell) being arrested.

9:30 p.m. The Mindy Project, Fox (new): The Office" alum Mindy Kaling stars as an unlucky in love gynecologist.

10 p.m., "Private Practice," ABC: The 6th season picks up three months after the season five finale, which saw Amelia give birth to an anencephalic baby, and Sam propose to Addison.

10 p.m., "Vegas," CBS (new): Inspired by the true story of Ralph Lamb, the "cowboy sheriff" of Las Vegas. Dennis Quaid and Carrie-Anne Moss star.

8 p.m. "The Middle," ABC: Find out what the heck the Heck family did over summer vacation in the season 4 premiere.

8 p.m., "Animal Practice," NBC (new): Justin Kirk plays second banana to a monkey in this new series about a New York veterinarian.

9 p.m., "Modern Family," ABC: The Emmy favorite continues with the return of Shelley Long, a pregnant Gloria, and debates about vasectomies.

9 p.m., "Criminal Minds," CBS: Jeanne Tripplehorn steps in as linguistics expert Alex Blake.

9 p.m., "Law & Order, SVU," NBC: NYPD detectives work in a special victims unit.

10 p.m., "The Neighbors," ABC (new): A family learns their neighbors are aliens, and that aliens still have problems.

10 p.m., "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," CBS: Kyle Richards, of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," will guest star as the neighbor of a murder victim.

8 p.m., "Last Resort," ABC (new): After a nuclear submarine crew is attacked, they seek refuge on an exotic island. "Lost" fans, check this one out.

8 p.m., "The Big Bang Theory," CBS: The lovable band of nerds returns, one from space. Science is easy; relationships are hard.

8:30 p.m., "Two and a Half Men," CBS: Miley Cyrus will guest star in the 10th season as a family friend of Walden's (Ashton Kutcher).

9 p.m., "Grey's Anatomy," ABC: Creator Shonda Rhimes has declared season 9 of the series "The Year of Romance."

9 p.m., "Person of Interest," CBS: More questions will be answered, relationships explored and mysteries presented in the second season.

10 p.m., "Scandal," ABC: Inside a Washington, D.C., crisis management firm.

10 p.m., "Elementary," CBS (new): A modern day Sherlock Holmes with a twist -- a female Watson (Lucy Liu). Also starring Jonny Lee Miller and Aidan Quinn.

8 p.m., "CSI: NY," CBS: Stars Sela Ward and Gary Sinise traveled to San Francisco to shoot a pivotal episode of the gritty murder investigation show.

9 p.m., "Made in Jersey," CBS (new): A blue collar Jersey girl makes her way in an upper crust New York law firm.

9 p.m., "Fringe," Fox: The FBI sci-fi drama is coming to a close, and it won't all be happy endings. "There will be death in the final season," executive producer J.H. Wyman told TV Guide.

10 p.m., "Blue Bloods," CBS: The series about a multigenerational family of NYPD cops returns for a third season.

10 p.m., "48 Hours," CBS: The 25th season of the investigative news show premieres.

Sun., Sept. 30

7 p.m., "60 Minutes," CBS: The television news magazine premiered in 1968.

8 p.m., "Once Upon a Time," ABC: In the town of Storybrooke, fairy tale characters are unaware of their real identities.

8 p.m., "The Amazing Race," CBS: Among the competitors in this season's race will be bilateral amputee Amy Purdy, co-founder of Adaptive Action Sports.

8 p.m., "The Simpsons," Fox: Lovable, forever-young, mischief-maker Bart and his family return for season 23. Rumored cameos include teen sensation Justin Bieber.

10 p.m., "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," FX: The teaser for the eighth season about the dark comedy in a Philadelphia pub is titled "Beware!"
