Episcopal diocese tabs Grace

The Rev. Patricia M. Grace, rector of St. Mark Episcopal Church in Dalton, Ga., since 2011, has accepted the position of canon to the ordinary in the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee. She will begin her ministry there on Oct. 30. A canon is a staff officer, generally a member of the clergy, who performs tasks as assigned by the "ordinary," or diocesan bishop.

Grace was associate rector for Christian education and parish life at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Atlanta from 2006 to 2011. In the Diocese of Atlanta, she served as a facilitator for new clergy and clergy in new positions, as a congregational search consultant, on the Congregational Development Commission and on the Seminarian Scholarship Committee.

Before going to St. Luke, Grace was curate from 2004 to 2006 at St. James Episcopal Church in Knoxville. Prior to being ordained as a priest in 2005, she worked in senior executive positions with United Way.

She received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Bucknell University, a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary, a Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the Haden Institute's spiritual direction program.
